Default 2004 F150 5.4L Engine with Condensation in the Oil Fill Cap and Poor Fuel Economy

I recently installed a remanufactured F150 (after a loose timing chain destroyed the block...).

I'm now getting white milky oil in the fill neck and cap. I replaced the valve cover with the PCV valve in it and that didn't help. Here are a couple of pictures taken 300 miles after cleaning the cap.

This engine is in a 2004 Ford F150 FX4 and I'm only getting 11MPG on the new engine. I was getting around 15MPG with the previous engine.

I'm getting no engine codes of any kind.

Are these issues symptoms the result of the same issue? If so, what might it be?

Thanks,

Brad

I have a 04 5.4 also. I get the same condensation in the oil cap. I have read in several places this is normal from the oil vapors especially in the winter time.

What kind of driving do you daily? The shorter your trips, the more likely this sort of thing is. with that mileage, I'd assume you're not going very far.

So four years later... I'm having the same issue with my 04, although it definitely doesn't make as much sludge as your does. I can see water droplets on my cap too so I know its condensation. It's also pushing my dipstick out a good inch with really makes me think its the pcv valve. I'll be curious to see if changing the valve cover works on mine.... But yeah the cold temps make it create more condensation.

Mine did that all the time. FordTechMakuLoco even has a video that shows the difference between that condensation 'cream' and something like a blown head gasket.

If the oil on your dipstick and the oil you drain out during an oil change looks OK, there is nothing to worry about.
