Default vss, posm, or electrical gremlin

The other day my 95 f150 5.0 started to shift hard after stopping at my brothers house. I did a little reading and swithed the instrument cluster out with one from the salvage yard, thinking that it was a bad psom. No luck, still no spedo or odometer.
My (stock) radio also quit working. It is getting some power but will not display any lights or adjust (except for volume which only buzzes)
Check all fuses -- All good.
I ran a self test and got the following codes;

452 insufficient input from vss
542 fuel pump circuit open–PCM To Motor Ground
628 excessive torque converter cluth slippage
(not to worried about this one it shifted just fine before)
634 Manual Lever Position Sensor Voltage Higher Or Lower Than Expected (dk?)

The alt indicator also seems to be low. It pegs at about 10 and doesn't fluctuate.

All other electrical ops are working fine. My cousin seems to think that I should be chasing an electrical gremlin in the grounds and wiring. It runs and idles just fine, but I'm not driving it cause I don't want to mess it up anymore than it already is.

Before I go any farther with parts, is there any way that these things are connected to each other electrically that I should look at?

update:
I put the old cluster back in and the alt reads fine. Am taking the other cluster back.

I just got a ride to the parts store and changed out the vss. Still no luck.
