I just made the first oil change in my 2013 Eco Boost. Since the truck's system was set at 100% on oil, I figured that the factory installed synthetic. Wrong! It was just standard 5W-30, and black. I was really pissed, as I have always changed standard oil at 3,000 miles. Why would Ford tell you to run a standard oil 10,000 miles? (shame on me for doing anything Ford tells me) Anyway, I replaced it with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 synthetic with the appropriate Pennzoil filter. To my surprise, the engine is running much quieter than before. Anyone have a opinion for this happening???

Interesting, I'll be tearing up some maintenance manager if this is the case with mine.

I did mine at 1500 miles. Oil is cheap enough, especially if your doing it yourself. 150 bucks a week for gas and 40 bucks every few months for the oil. One thing to keep in mind is that the oil today is not the same as it was thirty or more years ago, plus 8 qts will take longer to break down than the 4 qts that goes in a lot of vehicles.

I did my oil at 1000 miles.

May not be needed but I am ok with that for the piece of mind.

My truck has 900 miles on it. I will change it somewhere between 15 and 2500 depending on if the weather is nice and where I am at the time. (real scientific i know) for the first one I always change early. After that its every 5 k using motocraft filter and oil. Cant go wrong with that......then by the time I get around 25 k or so, I will go to mobil one full synthetic and mobile one oil filter for the remaining life of the truck or my own whichever croaks first.

The oil companies thank you, the environment - not so much...

It is my understanding that the factory fill is the Motorcraft Synthetic Blend. This is also what the dealers...at least my dealer puts in when you bring it in for a change.....unless you request full syn which obviously costs more.
