Default ‘18 5.0 have problems with valve carbon buildup?

Hello everyone,

I just took possession of an ‘18 screw with the 5.0. I see that is has both port and direct injection, does this mean that it isn’t prone to gunk buildup on the valves that some of the direct injection motors suffer from? My understanding is that port injection fixes this issue? Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the new truck. I recently took possession of the same, and I am also looking for verification of this. From my understanding it is true that adding the port injection along with the DI, does in fact clean off the valves and solve the problem, however I have not seen anything 100% concrete to confirm this. Hopefully more people provide feedback.

What years of the F150 with the 5.0L, have the port injection? I'm looking to buy next spring. Preferably 2011-2014.

I'm pretty sure port injection was new with the 2018 and that prior years do not have it.

No, all years of 5.0l have port injection. 2018 added direct injection along with the port injection. Port injection does help to keep the intake valves clean, and is especially helpful on boosted engines with a larger amount of blowby. The new engine architecture also has a new block with PTWA (plasma transfer wire arc) cylinder liners (like GT350, past GT500). higher 12:1 compression ratio, and a few other things.

12:1! So do you have to run premium all the time?

No no no. Direct injection was new with the 2018 5.0 and prior year 5.0's do not have it. All years have port injection.
