Default Imrc ?

I have a 2002 4.2L, I am getting a P1519 code. Intake manifold runner controll stuck closed. Is there anyway to take care of this problem without having to remove the upper intake(plenum) off. I just approx. 2 months ago replaced all the plenum gaskets and bolts. I really don't want to chance ruining those gaskets and bolts set.
I know you can't even see it from the engine housing.
Please help!

I have seafoamed a Mark VIII with that issue and it fixed it, that will probably be the best option.

THe plenum gaskets should be silicone, and the bolts are low torque, so you really shouldn't have any issues with reinstallation.

ANy time you go in there, it's always a good idea to clean the butterflies.

I had the same thing happen on my 02 4.2 and had to removed the upper intake manifold. Found that one of the plastic bushings that hold the arms onto the IMRC was broken. They are a little bit of a pain to replace because the area to work in is so small. My advise is replace all of the 4 plastic bushings on the arms since you'll be there anyways. I found this out the hard way...I replaced one and it was fine and a month later got the same code and another bushing broke. I'm sure there might be a way to not remove the upper intake but it would be a pain in the a** to replace the bushings if thats whats wrong.

Like Gone Postal said you really shouldnt have any problems with the gaskets. I'd didnt have any issues with them after I took off the upper intake.

Good Luck!

I did have to take the plenum off to get to the IMRC. It was the bushing on the linkage. Found the bushings at O'Reilly auto parts $6.00 for 5 of them. What a pain in the tush this bushing is to change. Plenum was no problem have already done that once because of the P0171 and P0174 codes. But that little tiny bushing you can't see where it goes on the one that I was replacing and you can't hardly get you're fingers in there to put it on. It took me 1.5 hours just to get the one on that was broken. I know I should have replaced the others to but I was so frustrated and tired from that one, and laying in that awkward possition on top of the motor all streached out. I checked the others and they seemed fine so I just replaced the one. I read to use a string through the hlole first then the bushing so you don't drop the bushing. This worked very well, because the first bushing I tried I did loose it down the back of the motor. But after all is done, the motor runs a lot better and I am hoping to get better than 15 mpg, hoping around 17 mpg. Love the truck. Love Ford. This truck has 117,000 and runs great now after the work that I have put into it. Plenum gasket and bolt set, Plugs and wires, PCV hose , DPFE sensor,IMRC bushing, Cuise controll pressure switch on master cylinder, Fog lights on the OEM light switch, New front rotors and brake pads.
Thanks for all the replies!
