just turned over 98,000 miles on my 2006 F150.
I like the 4.2 v6 paired with the 5 speed manual trans just that it don't get the gas mileage my old 96 did with the 300 straight 6.

yesterday morning when I started it up a rattling sound started and I am worried it may be a timing chain as it just happened with no previous noise.

I run factory full synthetic long life (7500 mile ) 5-20 oil and change it every 5,000 miles.
I will go see my mechanic tomorrow for a diagnosis.

my 2006 with the 4.2 and 309 rear end has no problem pulling my 6x16 enclosed tool trailer packed with tools unless I am going up a steep hill then shift down to 4th gear and it pulls just fine

my 2003 5spd manual has just over 205k hard earned miles.

Warrantied a slave cylinder at 45k
replaced the alternator at 160k
gutted the cats at 180k
Replaced tie-rod ends at 160k

Original engine, trans, clutch, diff, etc.

the truck has hit the ditch at 60mph, 1 deer at 60mph, numerous deer under 25mph, was hit broadside by a Honda Accord, we were both going 15mph.

My 2006 4.2L has 210,000 miles. Besides changing plugs for the second time and the EGR recently... the only other thing I had to change was the Camshaft Synchronizer and sensor. That was like $150 as I went with Motorcraft parts.

I am more than happy with my 4.2. Hopefully she'll go another 100K.

My 99 4.2L has 206K. Last time I added oil, it sucked the plastic bottle dry and collapsed. Any idea why there would be so much vacuum in the crankcase? Runs goods other than that. My other 99 and 03 4.2s both with over 190K each run well too.
