Default '98 to '01 4.2L Knock Sensor Swap

I'm in the process of swapping in a '01 4.2L to replace the tired '98 4.2L. I've come across a problem with the knock sensor, which in the '98 is on the lower passenger side of the block next to a freeze plug. The '01 has a bolt-thru type on the head. Can I just wire in the '01 knock sensor to my '98 wiring harness and leave it in the head?

Thanks!

Im doing a rebuild on my 98'. Is the 01' a better 4.2 then the 98' year? More power? better mileage or anything?
