engine start issue

’99 F150 XLT 4X4, 4.2, manual trans.
Every once in a while, the engine turns over, but does not fire. Spray a little starting fluid in the throttle body, it starts and stays running. This doesn’t happen every time and I can find no set of circumstances that may help determine the cause. i.e. it may start fine cold and not restart after running, or it may not start when cold and restart fine when hot.

Thank You

Maybe the start of an epidemic? https://www.f150forum.com/f6/99-f150...roblem-401205/

Thanks for the reply. I read those posts and the difference is with his problem "A shot of starter fluid will always bring it to life but then it dies". Once my truck starts, it stays running.

Thank You

They can get stuck. You'll know more when you confirm that you have power at the pump during the no-start condition. As described in that other thread.

Bad electric fuel pumps are a fairly common problem. Confirming power to the pump is often the first thing to check. Crud, water, wear, they don't last forever. Good luck.

Sounds like a dying fuel pump . Can’t go wrong replacing it with a walboro 255 lph fuel pump and a wix, K&n , motorcraft etc fuel filter

Replaced the fuel pump, that was the problem.

Thank You
