4.2 Rebirth

Went ahead and installed new timing gears, chain and tensioner.
Remember, the trick to the gears are to put them on at exactly the same time with the chain. Seen a lot of people struggle with this for some reason.

Very nice pics and description. That before and after cleaning shot is just plain cool....
I really need to do this to my 200k+ mile 2003 4.2L. It has a tiny valve cover leak. But I don't have any covered work area...just the trees out in the yard. But my end goal is to swap in a 5.0L Coyote. So my old 4.2 block may turn into an additional traction weight for the light rear end.

The heads were not in horrible shape but I thought since Blakes was already cleaning it up, I had them go ahead and do a complete valve job and pressure test.
Then got ready to get them mounted.

Next was doing the torque steps on the head bolts. This is a lengthy process. Notice the paint marks on the bolts. The last step is to pull the bolt another 180 degrees. Marking is a must.
Added the pushrods and rocker arms.
Rocker arms get tightened down to 29ftlbs.
