Lightbulb 3.7 Knowledge and Upgrades

I have a 2013 3.7 V6 F-150 XLT that I purchased for work. Although it is a 2wd, I need to get around on some dirt roads and a little bit of rough terrain (nothing I would get stuck in though). Regardless, I was planning on upgrading the tires to 33" which I know will add some weight on this truck and possibly putting Rancho's Quicklift on the front to balance the nose dive.

Point being, with a small motor and 2wd I don't want to kill the fuel economy on this truck just to make it look cool and kick some dust. What do you recommend that I do in order to upgrade the ride to accommodate the tires and tool box. Etc.

Do you think it will kill the MPG on the truck adding the weight?

Anyone have similar experience with this?

I'm in a similar situation. I need the additional ground clearance and so all terrains but not much need for the 4X4. I've seen a few programmers and intakes just doing a search on the web. Stage3motorsports are doing a project truck for some r&d on performance parts but they don't have much up yet.

I put 5100's on 4 corners with 2" lift and lower front air dampner 1" on its fasteners. Drives better! The bigger tires may cost U a slight decrease in mileage. If U stay to side black tops and speeds between 50/65 UR ok to go and keep good MPG.

If you want to talk 3.7L trucks, call in and talk to John here. He can tell you all about the 2wd truck we have and the suspension options, as well as mileage. We are going to start our performance testing on the dyno in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the updates guys. I'm thinking of upgrading to some stock 18" rims with 275/65R18's for now. Maybe add the quicklift later when funds are a little more available.

UR good to go ! Trans shifts constantly to compensate for the little changes in roads. If U have tow/haul U'll like it more. It might use .5 gallon more if U ask for tow/haul performance.

Ok guys. I put on the Rancho Quicklift and achieved a 2" rise in the front and put 1" blocks in the back for a little bit of factory rake. Overall the truck looks great.

I settled on a tire. Considering the amount of highway miles I'll be putting on the truck, I went with the Nitto Dura Grapplers. Highway tread with an aggressive looking sidewall. 275/70r18's which will put me a little over 33.23"

I think this setup is the best compromise for an everyday driver who wants a little tougher stance and off-road appearance with the best on road qualities. I'll post some final pics when the tires arrive from Discount.
