Signs of Ecoboost Turbo Failure?
My 2019 3.5 EB, 45000 mi., does not seem to perform as it used to. when I come to a stop, I hear the sound of something winding down (turbos or fan? ...never used to make the sound); when I hard accelerate the truck used to put me back in my seat a bit, now it just seems louder; my fuel mileage is down a good 2mpg on average for any driving condition. Also, on occasion, when I start the engine I hear a "pop" (back fire?). Are these an indication of my turbo's starting to fail or is my engine just wearing out?
I don't beat the truck or drive it hard but I tow a 6000lb travel trailer on week-long trips three or four times a year and I noticed on one of my last runs last year when I was towing against a strong headwind, the engine was really working hard where previously it never really struggled. I limit my top speed when towing to 60 mph to be kind to my rig and to make sure I can keep it under control under all circumstances.
