Accepting only one component of the explanation returns = change the oil in more frequent intervals baby.
Apparently, Ford has fixed the timing chain issue sometime in 2013, and all truck from that poing on shold not have timing chain stretch problems. While lubrication is generally critical to moving parts, in my mind, i'm not convinced that oil is the prime suspect of chain stretch.

What oil does Ford recommend, and what oil change intervals do they suggest on the 2013 and up ecoboosts? I wonder if they are different than the 2011 & 2012 truks, or different.

I'm setting up an appointment today with my local Ford dealer to take my truck in for the P0016 error. With any luck I'll be dropping mine off next Tuesday to get taken care of, I'll let you know how it goes.

Hello, I am a very new member to this board and I have to decide by tomorrow on a 2014 FX4, s-cab, production November 6, 2014 EB. Do you guys think or have an idea if the engine in this truck has all of the timing chain components upgraded and possibly trouble-free from the chain-stretching problem? Thanks.

Yes, the timing chain issue was for ecoboosts, built before 10/10/14, I actually just looked at the tsb today, because I'm redoing the timing on an 11 eb at the shop that stretched the chain with only 43,000 miles.

Well I thought this only affected early model builds, but a production date of 10/10/2014 and earlier is concerning. Ford should start taking a sample of these engines in and find the reason this is happening. Their fix of just replacing the chain is not working.

As planned I dropped my 2011 off at the dealership Tuesday and they agreed that the timing change and associated parts needed to be replaced. With any luck I'll get the truck back today or tomorrow, my service advisor said it was contingent on them getting the parts in. I also asked about replacing the tensioner and they said it would be replaced if it was out of normal specifications. Just waiting for the call now to get pick it up and take it for a test drive, I'll know immediately if it's fixed and will report back!

It won't be out of spec because the tensioner is not included in the TSB.

They told me that too and then never touched the tensioner. They said "it was good". And in reality, I don't think it would have mattered anyway. Ford can't figure this one out.

I would pay out of pocket to get a new tensioner and new cam and crank sprockets. At that point, an extra 200 is worth it to me to see if it fixes it.

There use to be a time when timing chain kits use to include, chain, tensioner, and all sprockets. Why Ford is not doing that on this engine is beyond me.

I offered to do that when they tore mine apart, but because corporate was paying for the repair, the dealer wouldn't depart from what corporate had authorized.
