Ecoboost stalls on warm restart
I have a 2011 F150 FX4 Ecoboost with an issue the dealership has not been able to solve so I’m looking for help. I’ve searched through threads extensively and not found one with same symptoms in the forums. After taking a trip for 30 minutes or more then stopping for 20 minutes or so the pickup will start then go into a rough idle and ultimately stall. It has a long crank time to restart like a no fuel situation. Originally this would be the end of it and it would run normally at restart. Now it may exhibit the issue 3-5 times before it runs normally. The dealership diagnosed it as a HPFP the first time but it did not solve the issue. Since then they can not explain it or they say it did not act up for them. It has started to stall now when allowed to idle for extended period of time when already warm. I have not videos it myself but the video below is exhibiting the same symptoms but mine is more severe. |

fuel pressure sensor maybe? I'm at a loss man. No codes? nothing?
air getting in the system between the in-tank pump and the hpfp/bubbles? |
No codes, nothing at all other than the rough erratic idle and stall. |
That could be a vacuum leak type thing, PCV system vacuum leak?

Mode 6 datalogging, this will tell you more of what is going on if there are no CEL's.

Acted up yesterday and did some monitoring then got the tech at the dealership to do some extra looking around with me. I left it with them with some newer ideas for them to investigate. Found the in tank pump was losing pressure and pumping air. I haven’t had a chance to talk with him today but we decided to replace the pump assembly. I picked it up and tried to get it to do it again. So far with the first test it seems to be fixed! I will update if that changes...

Pull out fuse 27 (Fuel Pump) and carefully inspect the fuse sockets. Apparently the fuse holder and connector cannot handle the current draw of the fuel pump and eventually gets hot and result in intermittent no starts until it completely fails.
If they are damaged you need to apply TSB (15-0137) and the Ford kit (part # EL3Z-14293-A) to move the fuse from location F27 to F70. The fuse kit is available from Amazon and I believe RockAuto.com too. - Mike |
