I'm at a loss, I understand that a V6 will not sound like a V8 and this is the first non V8 that I've ever owned. I love the turbo power and the comfort of the Fx4 interior. Well I love the truck. But I always had aggressive exhaust systems.i asked this question before to someone else but can you tell me the purpose of down pipes and the advantage they give. I know they are pretty pricey. Also I still need to figure out a solution to my exhaust dilemma. I am obsessed at this point. To have dropped $1,200.00 only to be back at square 1. Well not even there because now I have straight pipes and it still sounds like crap and i seem to have lost a noticeable amount of response.

I also agree with you on that white trucks exhaust. It's not what I want but it's one of the better ones I've heard. I think the only solution I may have at this point is to order a muffler cut a section of my straight pipe out and clamp in the muffler. If that sounds like crap then find another muffler to try, and so on. But it seems to me that one of the biggest drawbacks to the eb sound is the the rice burner effect. Within that sound are a lot of high frequencies, now most high Performance or aggressive muffler manufacturer's build different materials into their mufflers to remove those high frequencies to give us the lower rumble, throaty sound we've grown to love. The only muffler I know of that combines the fiberglass with the baffle and the chamber all in one is the cherry bomb vortex. But somehow I don't think that that alone is going to do it. I don't yet know the purpose of down pipes so I don't know if that will help. There has to be something that can absorb those high frequencies. That will allow a muffler ( glass pack, flowmaster, magnaflow, borla.....) to sound the way we want it to. Short of swapping out a cam.

This isn't my exhaust, but I like the sound of this one alot, especially with the loud turbo sound and blowoff.

My stock exhaust on my '17 3.5eb is interesting. Of course the OEM downpipes with cats are restrictive, but the Y pipe to single looks like it downsizes to 2.5" before going 3" after the muffler. Not very good for flow. Obviously emissions and NVH were the #1 priority.
Downpipes are not only flowing better due to larger diameter and integrated cats, but good downpipes will retain heat better, allowing for better thermal expansion within the exhaust flow (and thereby faster flow). dual 3" downpipes to a single 3" exhaust should make for a very nice flowing exhaust system good for up to 500hp or so on these trucks.
In a perfect world if I were modding my truck, I'd go with dual catted 3" downpipes to a Y and single 3.5" exhaust from there back, with the biggest freakin' perforated core mufflers and resonators I could fit to keep noise down.
I'm a big fan of magnaflow mufflers. they last a long time and are not baffled so they don't hinder flow at all.
Glasspacks are crap. Just are. I made the mistake of wasting money on one years ago and blew the material out of the thing within 3 days. Proper exhaust tuning on these trucks could make them sound very good, but just generic mufflers aren't gonna do much. Flowmasters may sound deep down low, but on V6's once you hit 4000rpm or so, they sound terrible (IMO), even turbocharged motors.
Very nice sounding exhaust can be had, seriously, but it has to be engineered right instead of a generic truck exhaust a lot of these companies make that is universal fit among F150's, etc. And you could probably do it for less coin than a lot of those systems.

How about some exhaust sound clips/video sound clips and the manufacturer of the exhaust that members have put on their 3.5 EB's and some feedback. I kinda would like to change my exhaust but would like to know what everyone is liking or disliking with their purchases and installs. I don't know if I should buy a kit from lets say American Muscle or if I should have a custom shop build one for me.
