Ecoboost beware! Bought my 2012 FX4 Ecoboost and loved the truck. Bought many Ford vehicles over the years and 3 F150 before. **** about oil and filter changes. So I was stunned when the engine seized at 83K miles. Ford Tough means thats their response when the engine seized. 60K is the warranty. Figured bad luck and put in used 21K engine for $8000. Just seized again after 70K miles (total of 91K). Likely same issue, intercooler fills with water from condensation then gets sucked into engine. Cant compress water so piston fails and engine damaged beyond repair. First time it did it without warning. Second time, I heard a knock but dead before I could get off the highway. DO NOT BUY An F150 with the ECOBOOST!

If the condensation problem in the inter cooler was the problem on both engine failures why didn't you fix that problem with a different or aftermarket inter cooler? It looks like guys have put over 150k miles on them with very little troubles.Sometimes the blame is on the owner but they don't see it that way.

intercooler condensation issue is not a bad engine issue, it's....an intercooler condensation issue.

No engine can compress water...so the engine failure is not because the ecoboost is bad...

Just did my first oil change at ~4500 miles, to Castrol Magnatec and a Ford filter. I would recommend a 4000-5000 mile interval based on the smell of fuel in the oil (common with direct injected motors.....so don't fear that)....went with the Magnatec based on the reviews on BITOG regarding ecoboost motors and specifically the 3.5 EB.

Still very much love this truck and engine. Fun to drive, ridiculously powerful. Very happy!

Brand new owner and so far no regrets on a 2017 super crew xlt with the 3.5. Just a tad under 1k and I'm averaging 18 MPG city , highway, and forest roads in 4x4. We'll see how the gen 2 holds up I guess.

Bought a 2013 a couple years ago, put 50K miles on it. Love it!! Only problem is that the stereo head unit went dead. had to replace/upgrade it and I put in a backup camera at the same time. besides that, no regrets!

I bought mine new in late 2011, it has over 170,000 on it now. love it, towing is great mileage if I take it easy is great for a full size truck. going to keep it till it drops. only thing I have had problems with, the spark plugs don't last as long as they should. they get hair line cracks they show up under hard acceleration or pulling a heavy load. easy to replace. only happens about 50,000 miles or so. next truck will be an Eco boost as well.

Is this where an oil water separator would be of value? Just asking. I'm not sure but seeing you mentioned water I thought that it would've been of some help. Any thoughts?

Oh boy. This is so frustrating for me. The last post was tho johntdoyle. About the possibility of a oil water would have been any help in his situation. I only repost this because I was interested if he had and opinion on this. Or insight.
