Were you sleeping on the first test drive?
Dreaming on the second test drive?
Possibly different rear gears.

I'd say a combination of all those!

I traded a 5.4 for mine being told that the mileage was much better. Not even close to as good mileage. Traded for a Ram after 2 years and with the Hemi I get the same driving distance on a 20% smaller tank.
The V8's are better on gas and sound nicer. If I ever go back to Ford it will be 8 cylinder all the way

I bought a used 2011 fx2 eco 2:55 with 20k miles on it. Drove couple k miles started going in limp mode. Took to shop, and they replaced complete ignition system. Good thousand miles or so, and was changing oil and noticed a drop or 2 of oil. Went to shop, and diagnosed as cracked leaking turbo @ 29k miles. The shop left me walking without vehicle and it took them lil over a month to get turbo and install it. Finally went to pick it up at dealership, and when dude was pulling it around he crashed it, and gad to put in there body shop and fix it.Couple weeks ago went to beach on vacation, and on the way back it almost got me killed twice going into limp mode at really bad times.. took to shop, and they say it was cadalidic* converter. Took 5 days to fix. Been driving a few days with no issues. Needless to say not real happy with the eco. But when it is running good I do like it. Wish I had got 5.0 or a tundra.

2012 2WD 60K on the clock, No regret on the engine but next one will be a 4WD.
I have developed a slight irritation with the trans on the start of the roll, seems to have a slight bump before taking hold, but no issues with the EcoBoost.

I had a 07 Lariat 5.4 4x2 and I loved it. I only got rid of it because it was my daily commuter and gas jumped over $4. I just bought a 2015 Platinum 4x4 3.5 Eco with the 3.31 rear diff. I have no complaints. I have a lead foot and can chirp the wheels in 3rd if I try hard enough! My MPGs vary because I'm in AZ (altitude changes). I'm my 5.4, I could tow with the best but this truck here will blow that one out of the water. I haven't had a chance to max my towing yet but I will! No regrets here. Will wait to see how long this engine last though.

No, I'm not off, the fix was as described. He showed it to me. The V10 was around 10 city and 14 highway, I should know, I drove it over a 1/4 million miles.

Default 170000km Ecoboost

I have a 2011 F150 super cab,
At 12000km I had misfire in damp conditions on 5-6.
At 40000km reflash for surging+tranny hard shifting.
At 78000km a coil on No2 failed.
At 88000km Vacum pump replaced because of noise+updated CAC fitted.
At 140000km plugs replaced due to misfire(160000km recommended as per onwners manuel.)
At 143000km timing chain, cam phaser+guides replaced.(Also had the secondary cam chains replaced just in case).
At 155000km bank 2 cam phaser solenoid failed.(Out of extended warranty at that point.)
At 160000km 2nd Vacum pump failed at start up,Brakes hard to press.(Replaced my self.)
Oil change every 16000km as per owners manuel by ford dealership,When the timing chain failed Ford tested the oil+inspected the inside of the engine and there was no mention of inproper oil changes or sludge build up.
When checking my oil level with 8500km on the oil it looked clean and golden colour on a white paper cloth with 170000km on the engine.

Coolant issues we've had none, must be an odd ball issue in your case. As far as the timing chain issue, we've done 4 so far and every single one of them was due to improper oil change schedule or oil viscosity, on a truck all changes should be done between 5000-8000kms, if the sludge builds up it doesnt allow the cam to move and stretches the chain.

I also noticed you have a grill in your lower opening in front of the intercooler, Ford straight out tells us not to slow air flow through the lower opening. Not even billet grills or meshes. (this could be a cause of some issues as well)

Highest mileage ecoboost we've seen so far was a 2011 with 182,000kms (orginal engine/turbos, took it for a ride and still had all the power) After dealing with the engine for the past 6 years, I just ordered myself a new 2015 F150 with an ecoboost (other than sound, their is no reason Id go back to a v8)

Forgot to metion the updated plugs fail with just less than 20000km on them,Had a misfire on No1 so replaced plug and coil but found track marks on the plug and could not get the code to clear.
I took it to the dealers who said the other plugs were the same so they replaced them under warranty.(Note these were the updated plugs that did not last 20000km)

Another issue you could look into is the type of fuel and driving. I run Shell Vpower to help keep my engine clean and then I also make sure I run it up and down the interstate for a good stretch every now and them. MY truck is the family road trip vehicle and it performs great
