I agree. I'm not certain it clears up the problems from water being ingested (there are TSB's concerning ingested water) but after seeing all the crud that is being put back into the intake manifold from the PCV system, the "can" has got to be helping the coking on the intake valves and the degrading of the fuel in the cylinders. The hole drilled in the bottom of the CAC might help the ingested water limp-mode problem from water pooling in the bottom of the CAC but it won't help the intake valve coking problem. I get a lot of water (very contaminated) that was headed for the intake manifold in the catch can and contaminated water doesn't burn very well in the cylinders. People wonder where the stumbling comes from...well, that might be a part of the problem as well as all that crud that is hitting hot intake valves as it is forced into the cylinders.

I have a 2015 3.5 EB F-150 with the McNally 32 oz.catch can installed. Since installation in Jan 2017 to mid May/17 I have accumulated 16 ounces of crap. It seems that the 2015's have improved the PVC system and the air intake as I don't get the humid/rain power drop outs as I did with the 2012 EB. However there is one problem I can't correct on the 2015 ande others complain the same as it throws a P04DB CODE when I get a little aggressive on the throttle (sometimes not). Putting in a new air filter made it worse. I do clear the codes as they happen with my forscan tool on the smartphone.

I am also setting up a website and store as a Canadian supplier of the McNally Catch cans. (work in progress) I do like the product and feel it is a necessary device to have. There are cheap cans on the market but I won't use that on my $67,000 truck. I smell gas in the brew and found 3 tiny water droplets, otherwise it is a blackish charcoal color brew.
I am at 54000 Km or 30000 miles, all is good.

the intake valves will always build up carbon unless port injection sprays fuel over them. I'm guessing that was one of several reasons the gen 2 has port and direct injection. No catch can will prevent it.

I won't disagree. DI has it's own issues. I will stand by my statement that less crud entering the intake manifold from the PCV system gives the engine cleaner combustion air and there will be less crud to coke on to the valves. That's not a guess, it's a fact. The catch can may not totally mitigate the problem but it certainly can't hurt. As a side note, I get a lot less carbon build-up on the exhaust pipe than I did without the can and my plugs are staying cleaner as well. That tells me something has improved. Keep in mind, mine is a 2011.

Totally agree. My 11' tailpipe turned black quickly and always dripped black fluid wherever i parked. Installed catch can and no more issue. Not sure if this will happen on my new 17' 3.5. CC was definitely needed so no regrets and may have helped it's longevity.

Only way I'll install a catch can is if it's a Ford part, directly from Ford, like they did for the coyote in the mustang. Otherwise, I have a looooong warranty.

I've got another 3 years on my Ford ESP warranty so I'm not terribly worried but I really don't want to take chances and hope when something is available to mitigate at least part of the problem. Here's a pic of the crud from my catch can...two weeks worth.

My 2012 3.5 eco just hit 100k had it for over 2 years and I installed livernois tuner earlier today actually. Honestly a lot of my mechanic friends teased the v6 and I contemplated trading for a 5.0L when I worked at a ford dealer. That thought didnt last long. Highway trips I can get 20mpg, around town 15ish. + After uploading the LMS tuner today I have no regrets, it pulls. Never towed anything with it but had a few transmissions and blocks in the back. No major issues, regular maintaince and use amsoil.

Considering one of these catch cans after this thread. thanks

No regrets. Just traded my 2011 F150 in on a '17 gen 2. Love it.
Put 199k mi on the 2011 and went thru the early condensation problems with intercooler and replace left side cat under warranty. I ended up lifetime average 18.8 mpg. 3 sets of plugs, 3 sets of tires, brakes all around at 197k mi. Put brakes on and trade soon after.?...not planned. I was keeping it another 50kmi. Changed oil every 10k...never added a drop. One battery a year or so ago. Ecoboost in our 16 Expy now. Wife had to have one. She drove my truck a few times. It gets around 17 or so average highway. The strength overcomes my concern with mileage on that one. Drive the crap out of it and have fun. The 17 ten speed I just got easily gets 22 and I ran it a few hours last week and got about 24.1 mpg. I've had about 7 ford pickups over the past 23 years. Two were f250 diesel. The 2011 had tendencies like the diesel, low end torque out the ying yang like the diesel but not the hassle. No regerts ...lol!

Do you have a picture of the other one with the high miles? The V8 fanboys will say it didn't happen! LMAO
