3.5 Eco boost regret?

This is true. My normal use is an hour 15 minute drive on 55 MPH highways, twice a day, 5 days a week. It will usually go close to 10K before it warns.
When I towed my trailer for 3500 miles, it accelerated the time to change, and made it closer to 6K for the oil change.
Now if it had a fuel in oil sensor, it would be flashing to change at 2K! Just one day after an oil change and there is a slight hint of gas smell in the oil, and that was my past 5 3.5 engines in Flex, MKT and F150 trucks. I haven't checked my new one yet, but wont be surprised if I can smell gas. It usually smells like old lawn mower oil.

I know that for me, I don't drive the truck every day like I once did in fact I just turned 8k miles and my truck is 13 months old, so I switched out the factory oil after a few hundred miles and went to the Ford full synthetic oil and I change it out at every 4k miles from there, so just the other day I actually had my second oil change in my 16 Lariart.
I put just over 40k miles on my 13 Lariart in three years and did the same oil change interval and did not have a problem with the engine.

Well all I can say to this discussion is in 06 Ford was conservative at 5k oil change intervals. I had a 50k warranty on my 06 and changed the oil at 5k per Ford spec. Once I was out of warranty I moved the oil changes to right around 10k with synthetic. I retired that truck worn out at 173k hard miles, a lot of it towing heavy loads. The truck was shot but the motor was still solid and probably had another 100k left in it. The rest of the truck, well it had seen better days.

My dealership must be an anomaly. I asked the service department before I bought the truck if they are seeing any issues with the 3.5 ecoboost and they said no, nothing, it's a really solid motor. I pressed them further and said really I don't want a repeat of the Triton motors. They said, no, really we don't see any problems with the 3.5 ecoboost. It's a solid motor.
Pretty much all the ones I've been to have said the same. And in almost every ecoboost engine replacement they will never give a reason the engine failed, just a vague description on what they found. They really don't want the general public knowing the weak points, this goes for any engine any a brand also.
like I said multiple times also it's still a small percentage as far as how many of these engines are on the roads. But it does happen more than people want to know

Man I don't think they are failing. Other than a handful of timing chain issues what do you see on this forum? Not much.

Unfortunately the oil life monitor just isnt that smart, if you want proof beat your truck off road and tow like crazy, I bet the oil life monitor still goes to 6000-7000miles. I tell people everyday, oil changes at 5000miles are cheap insurance to make sure your engine runs for a long time without issue. I dont care if its synthetic or not, Ive actually had more engine trouble caused by synthetic oils foaming up, than conventional/semi.
I wish car companies never invented "oil life monitors" it just makes people lazy about their maintenance and makes life worse for the mechanics and service people trying to explain why your engine needs major repairs.
If you really cant afford to do your $50 oil changes 2000miles earlier, maybe you should trade your $60,000 truck for a fiesta, because your obviously over spending. Your truck cant see lots of thing; gas that gets into oil, dusty conditions(which can contaminate oil very quickly), no warm up in cold temps, people adding oil of different kinds to "top up". Also the olm doesnt use anywhere near the info the pcm/ecu get.

The originating module for the Oil life monitor IS the PCM, says so right in the factory service manual:
It's the PCm that does the calculation for OLM display on the IPC So; yup, it has access to the PCM data because it IS the PCM.
The FSm also goes on to describe that the PCM starts at a base 16,000 kms/ 1 year (10,000 miles) for oil change interval and then adjusts it down based on parameters such as high engine coolant temps, high rpms, idling hours, low oil levels, etc.
OLM's are also (generally) "conservative". Meaning even though they are saying change the oil, they still leave some life on the table (for obvious reasons). Here's an article from Edmunds where they tested some samples and found the OLM was, on average, about 2000 miles conservative for their two test vehicles across different manufacturers: https://www.edmunds.com/car-care/oil...g-systems.html
But if someone would rather change oil based on fixed mileage/dates instead of using the Oil life monitor, have at it. Not going to hurt anything. It's just not what is required to keep your warranty is all. It's more than what's required, which should also keep your warranty intact. Nothing wrong with that either.
It's also not about wasting and extra 50 bucks (it's more like 100 here) on oil changes here and there. It's about conserving a diminishing, non renewable resource. Some will probably say "so what if I change my oil and extra 5/10/15 times during the life of the vehicle"? Well, you have to think a little bit bigger picture about it: multiply that by the amount of vehicles on the road and you're talking about a lot of oil changed before it's time and the resulting effect on available stocks and prices....

Synthetic oil foaming?
Really. Have to see that. Cal tech did a great study on oil and did top brands of sync and.Dino. amsoil 1 Mobil 1 2. You will have to prove that to me. Just did a lifter, timing chain phaser oil pump water pump deal with injector. The fellow that did it said he had never seen such a clean high mileage 250k engine in his life. Myself and the previous.owner were diligent about oil and intervals. Mobil 1 for me he used Ford semi sync

I wanted one, but couldn't find one with what I needed, like the tow package and 36 gallon tank. I was in a time crunch to replace my busted up one, or get stuck driving a rental dudge at my cost. I also have been down the first year Job 1 route with a Fusion Hybrid, so first years are not in my book anymore. New engine and transmission, will wait until 2019 or 2020 models, give it a couple years to work out bugs like they did in previous years. I had a 2012 EB, man that thing was horrible, but the 2014 was an absolute joy.
