2012 Ecoboost Engine/Transmission Problem Fix
#21
Thanks guys for posting this, I've been going crazy trying to figure this out. (no warranty left)
I've got a 2011 FX4 with 115000km's and it started doing this the other day.
Driving on the highway, doing 120km/h when I lose power and look down and the speedometer is at 0, then tranny drops to 1st gear and locks up rear wheels. It then automatically defaults to 5th and the speedometer is now jumping all around then while pulling off the road it drops to 0 and stays there. The orange wrench came up on the display but to engine light.
I shut the truck off and started it again and it was stuck in 3rd gear but no lights or warnings on. Once I started to drive away after about 100 yards it shifted down to 1st then drove normally the rest of the way home.
It's done it now 6 times, (long weekend, and dealer is busy until thursday).
I was going to change out the OSS myself figuring it had to be that, but now I think I'll take it in and tell them what has fixed your trucks up. Here goes another 6 or 7 hundo.

Glad I found this thread ! I had just bought a 2012 Platinum, only issue was it was a California "lemon" but assured me it was fixed. 10 days into the truck, issues taking off from a red light, the orange wrench of death on the dash. Contacted the dealer, they have had it for 2 weeks now (but gave me a 2016 Lariat to use). Finally called today to say it was fixed, replaced the valve body in the transmission. I'll pick it up later but hopefully that is the end of the issue. Seems like Ford knows there is a problem here with the eco...wonder what else is going to crop up !

Same issue even with the reprogramming
I just bought a 2012 with 41,000 on it. I have it 3 weeks tomorrow and I have already had the reprogramming on the software done. Well I had the same issue again today, not wanting to shift from 1st gear. I have called the dealership and I plan to demand the replacement of the molded lead frame. I have read may of you have had it replaced, my question is, has the issues stopped? I absolutely love my truck! I just want this crap to stop! I would love to be as comfortable in it as much as I love it! I also want to throw out a huge thanks to all of you that have posted on here, because if the form I do feel replacing the molded frame will correct the issues! Thanks all!

But the official recall just came out for this problem and Ford will replace all these parts That they know Are bad

Once that molded leadframe is replaced you should never have that problem again. Had it done on my 2011 @ 36k miles and never experienced one issue until I traded it in with 75k miles.

At 50K Now
I wrote a post when my truck experienced the original issue at 27K. Wrench light, unable to shift etc. I demanded that the dealer replace the lead frame per the bulletin. I am now at 50K and the truck is operating fine.

Hi there, I just found this forum after searching for this type of symptom.
I have just changed out the motor in my 2011 F-150, and I ran into some codes after I started it up.
The codes are P0657 and P0770. Symptoms include displaying that it was in 5th gear, hard shift into D and R.
I may have caused all of this myself when I was removing the transmission connector. I broke the tab off and had tough time figuring out how to get the connector out of the transmission, I didn't know how the Ford's locked theirs, I am used to the Allison transmissions. So with the little room I had to work with, I was prying on it and had to use channel locks to turn the lock on the connector to get it apart.
So after some searching, and by looking at what the lead frame is, I am assuming that I may have damaged it as it looks like the harness I was prying on is connected directly to the lead frame.
Have any of you seen the lead frame and can confirm that the wire harness connector plugs directly into the lead frame and that would most likely be my problem, as I had no problems before I removed the engine, I believe that I induced the issue myself.
Thanks for any help.
Bobby.

Lead Frame

The lead frame is in the belly of the transmission and it holds all of the solenoids and sensors for the trans. There are electrical connectors on it. Then There Is a bulk head fitting that all the connections come out through the trans on. They changed mine since they had it appart cause they said some leak. That's the part you were messing with.

I just had this exact same issue on my 2011 screw for the first time at 90k miles. The bummer is that despite my truck being manufactured in the date range for the specified recall, and at the Dearborn plant, Ford says that the specific part that was used in my truck is not susceptible to the issue and isn't eligible for replacement under the recall. They said I can get the work done at my dealership and save my receipts so that if the recall is expanded to cover my truck, I can get my money back. It's a lot of cash though to fork out and it's frustrating since this is obviously the same issue.
Here's a link to the recall notice in case anyone is interested. https://www.cars.com/recalls/ford-f150-2011/ It's 161S9, a little ways down the page.
