mine does this too but i noticed when its raining water runs out from under the cowl over the ignition module and the ECU wire plug...somewhere something is plugged letting water not drain correctly

Fixed Issue
My 2005 Ford F-150 would not start after a heavy rain storm or after driving threw any decent sized puddle. I had a mechanic look at it and he replaced the Fuel Pump Computer Modulator next to the spare tire. He mentioned that he has done many of these in the past because the housing simply wares away and the circuit board gets splashed which wont allow the truck to start until in drys.

If it all worked fine prior to the computer and then didn't after the replacement. check the computer. Perhaps their is something wrong with it. Will autozone warranty it? If I change the tires and the tire falls off I don't check the windshield wipers. i check the tire. You replaced the computer and then it stopped starting after rain, you check the computer. On the new computer their might be a hairline crack in the case, wire with a hole in the insulation, poor sealing grommet, etc.

Have similar problem. 2000 f150 5.4 4wd, no problem when sunny. When it rains, completely dead, like a power drain. Sometimes, radio is on, heater blowers is running, and no key in switch or in on position. Like I need an exorcism done on my truck. Have been driving with light rain and intermediate stops of wipers and using power windows occur. Any help would be great.

Starter Solenoid?
I have the same problem with my 1995 F150 (302). I'm curious about the Solenoid. To my limited knowledge, the solenoid gives an electrical connection to the starter to turn the flywheel so the engine can start. If the engine is turning over strongly, how could the solenoid by the problem.
I checked my disty - dry as a bell (whatever that means). Real head scratcher.
Here's how mine starts after the rain comes. I have to hold the key in start mode for a long time. Eventually, it starts to spit like it wants to start. Then it spits more. I have to keep the starter engaged until the engine starts to run on its own. I have to hold the peddle to the floor while this is going on.
Once it starts, it will run great and start up right away - no problems.
Still no long term solution to "won't start after rain".

The solenoid is an integral part of the starter, as this diagram shows:

It's designed to tolerate getting splashed repeatedly, because it's so close to the ground, and exposed to the road.
The starter RELAY is on the inner fender, and is also designed to tolerate getting wet, as when the engine bay is washed (as it should be occasionally) and when driving in rain:

Holding the pedal down & long-cranking followed by sputtering sounds like the engine is flooding. Possibly due to a ruptured FPR, which in your particular case may only cause problems during the cold associated with rain. Read this caption, and then check your truck's:

Mine did this and it was the fuel pump driver module. Check it out
One thing I just noticed. If I turn the key and hear the fuel pump run,, and run,, and run,,, and run,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it won't start. A couple times I turned the key on, the pump ran about 4 seconds, then a click, then the pump was silent. It fired right up each time this has happened.

I have a replacement on the way. I suspected the computer from the start, but no way to check it. It starts once the rain has passed for a couple days. That is the part that baffles me. I figured if the computer was getting wet, it would fry.
Will find out when the new one comes in on Tuesday. Will update then.

There is no FPDM on these trucks. This is the '87-96 forum.
