I'd use some ford racing turbo swirl aluminum cyl heads($1,200), nothing to fancy, they use pedistal mount rockers just like from the factory so you don't have to worry about adjusting stud mounts. but i'd use the ford racing rockers ($330) 1.6 ratio. Throw some new push rods in there as well, ford racing's got them for ($40) and some arp head bolts to keep them things secure($60) So now your looking at a pretty nice long block for around ($3,530), now here's where you can spend alittle more or keep your budget. Edelbrock has got a real nice manifold designed just for our trucks (i've got one) but there $589. Also a twin 61mm throttle body verses your stock 52mm its ($350) (also i could help you out there) you can run the stockers if you'd like. IF you run the heads with the manifold, you might want to step up to 30lb injectors because your going to be lookin at around 400hp. You need the injectors to match the mass air meter. you can find these matched components on ebay alot because people upgrade so much. Finally no matter what you need to save $400 and find a local superchips custom tuning center and have your truck dyno tuned. They will build you a chip with 4 power levels and one stock. They will match all your components with the computer make sure sure engine has plenty of fuel across the entire rpm range. This is the key to a great running truck. theres still more we can talk about, and questions just let me know
If you read this earlier in the topic its in there.......

Man...im not sure if theres a custom place around here. I know we got a performance engine building company here, but im pretty sure they dont do custom superchips.

You can send your computer away to have it reprogrammed, and if you need to drive the truck then just get another one to reprogram while you use yours to continue driving it. If you are only doing a straight rebuild with mostly stock type parts you don't need reprogramming.

You tell them the parts you will be using for the build, like the cam specs, if the engine is being bored over, if you are porting the heads (they might need flow numbers), stuff like that and they work up a program to match the modifications.

thats a good way to get a baseline, but i just recommend the dyno tuned computer for alot of reasons. Mainly the timing curve and fuel mapping capabilities. I have a friend making 830rwhp and gets 20mpg hwy. i know thats not practical hp for alot of you guys but i think it proves the point that its well worth it. You could go into a custom computer dyno shop with a bone stock truck and most will tell you they can get 30 more hp and 3-4 more mpg just with the custom tune.

search around i found a couple dyno shops in a quick search, go to superchips websit and type your zip in and see where the dealers around you would be. Don't give up!
