Default Will 4WD electronics transfer over?

I have a 1996 f150 5.8l with electronic 4WD. My E4OD transmission is acting up (slipping out of gear in drive at random times) and I know these are expensive transmissions to rebuild. At 154k miles, I'd say it served it's time well. I've been wanting to do a ZF swap, but I wasn't sure if the electronics on the 4WD will transfer over (sensors, PCM, etc.).

I believe you`ll need a matching computer,wiring to the tranny,pedals etc... and a different cross-member,you`ll need a new drive-shaft also.

This is the list from user Delox on the Powerstroke Forum:

  • ZF-5 Transmission
The transmission must be from a 4x4 truck OR an F-superduty with a driveline mounted emergency brake.
    .
  • Manual transmission crossmember
From any zf5 truck, gas or diesel.
    .
  • Pedal assembly (clutch and brake)
From any manual transmission ford truck of this vintage only! (92-97)
    .
  • Master cylinder
    .
  • Slave cylinder (external)
    .
  • Steering column cover and "push" tab for key release
    .
  • PRNDL blank cover
    .
  • Shifter
    .
  • Shift boot
    .
  • lower shift boot
    .
  • doghouse (floorpan with shifter hole)
    .
  • PCM
Not required from what I've read, but worth the money if one can be found to avoid a touchy throttle. I believe I will be looking for an ECU with code "ALF6"
    .
  • Clutch
    .
  • Flywheel
    .
  • Transmission wiring harness
    .
  • Front Drive shaft (shorter than auto)
    .
  • Rear drive shaft (longer than auto)
    .
  • Clutch fork
    .
  • pivot ball
    .
  • throwout bearing
    .
  • pilot bearing
    .
  • Clutch pedal position switch
    .
  • Transmission mount
    .
  • Transfer case shift linkage (this is my question...there's no shift linkage since it's electronic)

No shift linkage needed. And you don't need any sensors, there ain't any on a ZF. You will have to connect the reverse light wiring tho.
