I can see a few scenarios........they use less aluminum in airplanes and had to find someone to buy the extra material Alcoa had laying around. IF, and even Ford is questioning future sales using an aluminum body, the F-150 sales continue to be number 1, We might see another aluminum shortage....start saving your beer cans again folks! Might have to watch where you park at from now on. I can see the thieves carrying around battery operated nibblers and can openers now. "What the............Where'd my fenders go?"

I hope that the places where the AL meets the steel is much better than it was on the 2005 Mustang hoods....mine started to rust from the inside out in less than two years....Ford said it was.....well they would look in to it and get back with me, they blamed me for washing it too often. Not covered in any case.

While a good idea, I hope the reality and the implementation are better.

I am keeping my '92..

The 97 and up f150s have aluminum hoods and no rust problems. I have owned 5 of the trucks since 2000

That is called dissimilar metal corrosion. Specific measures should be taken to mitigate it, perhaps ford neglected those.

I can see the benefit of lighter weight less fuel. Aluminum has good charechteristics. Bottom line for me is $$. One must be prepared to depart with more than 40k so you can take it run up the miles and beat it up out in the field.. My 88 works perfectly for that. So most likely I will pass for now.

Yea, it's why you use antiseize on bolts that thread into aluminum. Also why the water pump bolts bond to the timing cover.

Isn't that the main problem with the 5.4 spark plug issues? Bad designs and aluminum heads?
