I"m already doing springs, ball joints and u-joints... what's your reasoning on the driveshaft, shocks, tie rod ends (the rods themselves are fine) and bearings?

While everything is apart, if you have the funds, it would be wise to do than put everything back together and have to do it later when they actually go bad.

my concern is that I'm throwing enough money/parts at the front end to last another 100k miles when the engine might not last 20k... this thing already has at least 150k on it and I don't have a very clear idea how many miles these engines generally last

They are so frickin' retarded at the parts store. In the Help! section of the parts store they have tie rod boots. Anything in the Help! section they usually can't find in the computer or don't look it up properly to find it.

Replace what you have to now, and if something breaks later then fix it. That's what you do with old vehicles, unless you dump a crapload of money into them to change everything.

I agree with Sean....

check it for wear and replace if its out of factory spec other than that leave it alone...

even my 95 I only replaced the ball joints ont he passenger side and the tie rod...the drivers side was fine...I replaced both springs though as I couldnt find a used one for the broken passenger side spring....

radius rod bushings and thats about it.....I got 50,000 on it since March of last year...I just drive the bajesus out of it...

Don't worry about your trucks mileage. 150,000 is nothing. My '95 f150 has 261,000 miles on it and runs great ! Motor has never been rebuilt. I put in a new timing chain about 1,500 miles ago plus new motor and trans. mounts. Truck is running great. I also have the 302- 5.0. Keep plugging, you're doing great !.......Ernie

well I picked up a new u-joint, but I have zero idea on how to remove the old one. As you can see, everything is very rusty. What's the secret with these things?

I may smear some naval jelly on it to clear off that rust, just so I can see what I'm working with... good idea?
