On the subject of EGR valves, where does the pipe that leads up to the valve run from?

What is idle surge? The valve worked after i cleaned it, i watched it open and close as the RPM's went up and down.

No, strangely enough I was not getting idle surge. In fact, the engine was running pretty smooth;ly, or so I thought. After installing the new can, it was REALLY nice.

Ok, so i changed the egr line, no probs getting it off Did the seafoam clean-out thing. Truck running way better, no gassy smell and not puffing black exhaust. Code is clear for the egr but the o2 sensor code (173, rich) still coming up. Changed the o2 again and reset the codes, but it comes back (173).
I did a engine on test and came up with a 116 code, engine coolant temp higher or lower than expected... What does this mean???

That' pretty self explanitory. What Thermostat F degree range are you running? If the engine isn't reaching normal oper. temp. or falling in & out, the engine will run in it's over rich "warmup mode" (No EEC fuel trim). Read this: http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=64 Here's probably more than you want to know:http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/

Not sure what temp range my thermostat is... What should it be??? Where is the Temp sensor and is the same as the Temp sender?? Manual only shows me the temp sender.

Stock is 195F. I use 180F because I run a rather aggressive timing advance so I know it's going to get to normal op. temp. A 160F is sometimes used but can cause the EEC to fall in and out of closed loop function. Although dr bowtie says he dosn't have a problem w/a 160F (but he runs an aggressive advance also). If it's not a below normal thermostat range, I'd suggest a faulty ECT sensor. The error code reads "out of range high or low" If I'm not reaching op. temp., my error code for the ECT states "below range". Not that it's not sure if it's high or low! The haynes manual gives you the test method & # results to look for in testing this sensor.

I seem to be missing something. I can't find the ECT sensor anywhere in the haynes manual or how to test it. Is it called something else?? I find the temp sender and how to test that with the gauge but not the ECT!!

Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Either in the heater supply tube, or on the top of the lower intake manifold. Behind the IAT. They are identical visually on the exposed end. The ECT has a solid brass cone that screws into the engine. The ATC has a slot thru the cone w/ an exposed resistor. They both resemble a spark Plug. Under "Drivability & Emission Controls" in the manual. In mine: Pg.4-18. They share the same voltage parameters.
