Transmission Downshifting Too Often
I have the 95 351 with auto E40D .... In the city truck has PLENTY of power and on the highway also... and it shifts strong and smooth, especially after changing the fluid/filter .... but i'm curious as to why when im on the highway going like 60-65 when going up a slight hill in order too maintain the speed im going the truck wants to kick down to 3rd gear.... once the highway goes back to level grade it will go back to OD... in newer vehicles im used to the throttle kinda boosting up like 500 Rpm's to accomadate the hill but not in my truck LOL ... Any ideas, comments, suggestions, ETC would be appreciated, Thanks!

I cannot remember, but I think your transmission is computer controlled. So there is not much you can do. If its not computer controlled it has a detent cable that can be adjusted. Look for that.

Is it kicking into 3rd or is the lockout clutch on the torque converter kicking out and feeling like an extra gear. The easy way to check is to shift out of overdrive after the downshift if there is another gear change it is the torque converter unlocking and this is normal and help the transmission run cooler while pulling hills.
