No Pain, No Pain!
The rear tank should be about 18 gallons. I have 2 tanks on my 96 F150 and I think the front is almost 20 gallons and the rear is about 18 gallons. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. If you have the owner's manual, it should list the fuel tank capacity for your truck.

Could be a gauge / sending unit problem. Just have to fill-up and verify your mileage.
Chiltons lists the rear tank as 18.2, front as 16.5 for short bed; 19.0 rear and 18.2 front for long bed for the 88-91 model years.

Gas Leak? you may find that it isnt even your tank leaking. i cant use my front tank due to if the truck is running , it's pulling gas throught the lines, and the lines are junk, so they leak. maybe this is your problem as well?

Check your other tank. Some of these will cross flow the return fuel into the other tank sometimes overfilling it and leaking. It also could be a bad sending unit. On my 83 f250 my front tank reads empty and my rear reads full regardless of the amount of fuel in them I would fix this but there are no longer any sending units available for it.

Dude don't sweat it, it is probably just your fuel gauge going out. I lost my fuel gauge accuracy on my 1992 F-150 about 5 years ago. Use your trip odometer to figure out when it is time to fuel up. I never bothered fixing mine....what for? On my 1992, I can put 18 gallons in the front tank and 16 gallons in the rear.
