Hello my name is Mark I recently bought a 1994 F150 XL it has a 4.9 straight six in it. It has 117,000 miles on it and the tranny was rebuilt and has a little over 4,000 miles on it runs and drives great. I was just wondering if there was anything that I should look out for such as common problems and things of that nature. I was also wondering how to improve MPG I replaced the wires and plugs and I am going to replace the distributor cap and button when I get some spare time I am looking for an intake but I don't want to pay $200+ for one lol so any ideas for that would be greatly appreciated. It needs new shocks in the front and an oil pan gasket I plan on repairing these myself with the help of some friends other than that the truck is good so any input on what anyone else has done to their truck performance wise and just anything in general I am open for suggestions. Thanks in advanced

Welcome to the forum, Like he said ^^^ the only cheap way to get good mileage is to grandpa it. To get noticeable MPG increase through mods, your looking at around a grand or more. Things like intake, exhaust, tonneau cover, or something along those lines. But none of the are probably going to be under 200 dollars. sorry.

Ya cats can cause trouble, really bad on trucks that burn a bunch of oil. I wouldn't take them off all the way just run them hollow. At least you will still pass a visual inspection that way. I don't know when they stopped using smog pumps, I bypassed it on my truck with a shorter belt helped a lot.

I think i'm going to take it off and weld a new pipe up they did away with emissions here in Ohio a year or two ago so I don't have to worry about that was also thinking about putting the exhaust into a Y split and put the exhaust out the sides of the truck like the lightning and weld dual tips on the ends hehe love that look. I'm also going to make a custom intake I'm still brain storming a bit on it on how to exactly do it the dual intake pipes are throwing me off a bit but I'll think of something and post pics when I'm finished with it. I'm pretty pumped this is my first truck and it bothers me that it's bone stock haha I think I could be handed a new car/truck and I would still want to mess with it
