do a search on cross filling my guess is its your fuel pumps are bad i just had to repklace both mine. same symptoms heres a link to someone else similar problem

Each fuel pump assembly has a valve that prevents fuel from being pumped to the wrong tank. The tank that receives fuel when it shouldn't has the bad valve and the fuel pump assembly needs to be changed to fix it.

For trucks w/o a separate hi pressure pump on the frame rail.

its not that hard to do, make sure the tanks empty first to make it easier

I don't know you personally so I don't know if it's a bad idea. I'd say it's a good idea if you're mechanically inclined.
