What mileage to expect from 5.8l

Looking at a 94 f150 eddie bauer. 2wd auto with 351w and posi rear. What kinds of mpg will I expect to get, I know it wont be that great but what is everyone else getting?

Last time I check I was getting about 12 average. That was just dividing my mileage by gallons of gas needed for a full tank. Not the most accurate but my gauge wasn't working at the time. I also had a vacuum leak I wasn't aware of that since has been fixed. I need to figure it out again though I feel like my tank isn't running down as fast as it was.

ETA: Mine is a 4x4 if that matters

I think it will get a hair less than if it was 2wd. Im hoping to get 17 or so on my trips to college if I get this one. Its got `170,000 but a brand new rebuilt motor and tranny for 1100...

redknight1 04-01-2015 01:07 AM

10, give or take

Mines got original motor and tranny, nothing rebuilt, 306k miles

I get just a hair under 12 but only use it for in town, you will be hard pressed to hit 17 mpg. This would almost require filling up, getting immediately on the highway and driving 55 until you reached your destination, otherwise if you are doing any combination of hwy/city driving expect about 12-14mpg for an entire tank.

12-15 is about all these beasts will do.

17 may be expected, but will not be likely.

Mines probably not perfect but it has no codes and runs good. I get 12. It's a 4x4

Mine has transmission issues. lol my fuel mileage sucks ontop of what it sucks as anyway. lol

Flt driver, yeah its pretty much get gas and hop on highway at 55mph for 4 hours, only gotta slow down for a few towns

1995 F150 XLT 5.8 2WD Short Bed

I'm getting anywhere from 7mpg - 12mpg city (depending on distance I drive).

Getting around 17-19mpg highway -- But that is with everything in excellent working order, no check engine codes, and no extra weight in the back (spare tire, etc) driving at a reasonable speed (65mph). If you're going 75 or 80 you're not going to get great mileage.

EDIT: Forgot that the fuel filler neck holds a little bit of fuel.. so maybe on a full highway-only tank i'm getting 18mpg. Either way, it doesn't get better than that unless you strip out a bunch more weight and replace w/ electric fan conversion.

EDIT #2: Also keep in mind that i've got smarties for wheels currently (29" stock). Anything bigger than that and you're losing fuel.
