What did you do to your truck today?
transmission replacement
so i recenty bought a rebuilt transmission from smart parts auto and i would like to share my experince. i would rate 4 out of 5. i have 95 full size bronco. m5r2 transmission is what i ordered costed 1150- a $250 core of the old one. this includes all shipping charges. took a week to arrive. smart parts told me to meet the delivery driver (from r and l carriers) at walmart to save residentail delivery charges of $60. the delivery driver said its illegal to meet there so i met him at another location no real issue. driver wouldnt take my croe to the facilty for shipment so i had to get paperwork and driver to a shipment office which was no big deal. got the new transmison home and it was coated in a nice black paint of some sort. noticed they used putty for gaskets and iwas petty brittle stuff on the outsides. got the transmission installed with a new clutch and slave cylinder in about 4 hours. next day at work i notice that the transmission is leaking quite badly NOT ACCEPTIBLE called the company and they said they would send a proper gasket which should already be on the transmission. i asked for reimbursment for taking it to the shop cause i have had enough of tearing apart my truck when this should not be an issue with a rebuilt transmission. they agreed to pay the repair bill so i am not that irritated and i would do business with them again because everyone i talked at their company was very helpful.

Made a little progress on replacing the core support. One of the lower attachment points was totally rusted through, so that was good. The other however was not and the nut would not come off no matter how many promises of heaven I made to it. So, out came the angle grinder to start to work my way through the support structure so I can tackle the bolt later on with more room.
But there's just so little room for a small angle grinder in there! I'm a long way through taking bites out of the support, making more room as I go, but am not quite there yet... *sigh*

If you have a welder I would plate the frame brackets with 1/8th steel.
just driving
I feel badly. My '89 F150 is finally running nicely with the AC working and all so all I am doing is driving it around.
These threads are always fun. A place to talk about your new goodies and projects where other people actually care.
Today I'm going to tint my headlights and tail lights, and repaint my front shocks. I'm thinking about doing horizontal 1 inch stripes on the tail lights but I'm not sure yet.
I already cleaned the engine compartment with a big can of gunk engine cleaner gel, and took some black steel wool to my rims to buff them out. Today is a good cleaning day for me.
