the question is, is it really worth that much trouble, i know the nite version is rare around here but this is when i usually fix the problem then trade to another truck, do you'all think its worth it to keep it?

The water pump is a piddly little easy repair. The pump comes with a gasket but you use RTV also as a little extra insurance against leakage. Changing the water pump is nothing like a cam change, you don't pull the harmonic balancer or timing cover and you don't pull the intake. Just the fan, shroud, belt, pulley, hoses and pump. Sometimes you may have to remove some accessory brackets, but I don't recall having to do that on my I6.
