Just FYI, Late Model Rextorstion has new metal style coffee cans for sale still. It's an option.

I replaced mine. I'd rather not admit how much I paid for a coffee can with a crappy paint job.

I have one of these cans with the crappy paint job in the mail right now. If I had time I would paint a nice "Campbel's Soup" or "Chock Full O' Nuts" logo on it.

I applied a few coats of engine paint to mine before I installed it.

To me, that'd be like shopping for solid rubber tires, or a 2G alternator - it wasn't any good when it was new, so why put another one on, when there's a VASTLY superior Ford part available for no additional cost, and it's one that came on these trucks (a year or so later)?

I live in a dry climate where the roads are never salted so rust is not an issue. That's why I gambled on the metal can.

Rust isn't why it fails - it just makes it fail a little sooner. It fails from metal fatigue - the can isn't thick enough for the repetitive pressure changes. Plastic doesn't suffer from brittle fatigue, or corrosion.

I don't live in a dry climate, and mine rusted. I would have been wise to buy and modify a plastic replacement. I do not anticipate your metal vacuum reservoir will fail from fatigue.
