Default Thermostat in PIECES!

Well my temperature gauge has been messed up for awhile now so i decided to tackle the job. From research I learned that the most likely cause for my faulty gauge only reading just above the "C" was the thermostat. Well after taking apart the thermostat housing I looked in and behold... a thermostat in pieces! No wonder why my gauge was off. A new thermostat and gasket and the gauge is reading correcty. While I was at it, I did a radiator flush. Everything is good to go now

Great job...it wasn't a matter of your guage being 'off'...it was the fact that your thermostat was always open and never let the engine get up to the normal temp!

Good job on the fix! and WELCOME TO THE FORUM.....

What do you consider correctly? My gauge reads just over C and I know it works right. Tested the thermostat and everything.

My gauge reads just past the M in normal, I have checked it with a in radiator temp gauge and a thermal infrared gun and run just over 198. I have the 195 thermostat in mine so I am not really running hot.

Mine used to run near the M, until the head gasket went the rest of the way.

Ouch! I would like to swap the 170 for a 180...b/c 170 lately has been a tad too chilly for the viscosity level of the 10W-40.

M is good, but I'm more comfy with the needle on R

I would be to if I had not checked with other gauges. I have not had the money to get the pod cluster yet to install real gauges.
