I bought a new bed and even it was rusted, the inner support was rusted along with the bed side, so I welded in the new patch panel and left the inner support rusted. So now I have a 3" hole that I can use to wash.

I was told the truck was rust free so I rented a trailer and drove 3 hours. My original bed wasn't fixable while this one had a little hole over the passenger wheel well. I wasn't going home empty handed after all the costs I put into going down to look at it. Plus I got the entire truck for half price.

Thanks for all the input guys, I have also been running the idea of replacing my bed with a flareside. Does anyone know of any rust issues that occur in the flaresides? I know I'd need to change things like fuel neck, bumper, and tailgate. But if it helps prevent rust just that much more, I'd like to do it. The fenders aren't rotted through yet and the previous owner hit them with bondo. Needless to say, they're cracking now and looking pretty crummy. My bed is the least destroyed that I've seen in my area so I don't think replacing the bed will work in my situation.

The flareside box may have different bolt holes, and depending what length you have on there now, it may or may not fit at all.

Yeah, I'm not sure if there's rust issues where they connect to the rest of the bed. I have a short bed reg cab and from what I've seen on here the flareside bolts in place.
