Boogerburns 04-25-2009 11:11 PM

Ham-Bone, next time get a receiver. That could have easily ripped your bumper off!

Just call me Sean 04-26-2009 01:01 AM

That trailer doesn't look that heavy, but then again neither does mine and it ripped my bumper off... twice.

Boogerburns 04-26-2009 01:25 AM

My Point exactly.

That was my funny way of backing you up.

Here is a pic of my truck hauling 2,200lbs of dirt and 750lbs of retaining wall block, for a total of 2,950lbs in the bed. She was down on the stops, but she drove just fine!;)

Boogerburns 04-26-2009 11:04 AM

Looks like a low rider! and thanks sean!

tractorboy 04-26-2009 09:29 PM

u should look into air shocks, i have some on my f150 and i could haul 2500lbs and stay level

Ham-Bone 04-27-2009 08:17 PM

i have a broken leaf spring thats why my truck is sitting so low .. and the trailer might weight 150 lbs 200 tops but ya i wanna get a better hitch that just hooking to the bumper

3 55 Gallon drums filled with water=1 380 Lbs of water and barrels in the back of my truck

Boogerburns 05-04-2009 01:49 PM

*BUMP* for justice!

Just call me Sean 05-04-2009 08:24 PM

Yes Booger, nice. You're still not resting on the bumpstops though, I've done that several times. Roughly 2 tons of rock in the bed, next time I'll get pictures.

Boogerburns 05-04-2009 08:33 PM

What would you say is the limit we can handle? I was super nervous, but it seemed to handle it like a champ.

Just call me Sean 05-04-2009 08:52 PM

I fill mine until just before the frame bends.

I don't really know what weight to say since I don't weigh what I put in, but as long as I feel I can stop safely enough then I load it up as much as I need. The rocks I loaded filled the bed over 3/4 of the way, and the axle was tight against the frame bumpstops. There was no suspension in the rear, no bouncing, nothing.

Boogerburns 05-04-2009 09:59 PM

If you could give a rough estimate? That was around 1400lbs, and it was far from no suspension.

I don't know what the limit is, but as I stated earlier in this thread, I had 2,950 pounds in my truck bed and she handled it just fine.;)

Just call me Sean 05-04-2009 10:44 PM

Using a concrete calculator I found, I had an estimated 5500 pounds of rock in my truck. I calculated for filling the bed square footage about 1/2 with concrete, but had the bed 3/4 full of rock. I figure rock would be lighter since there is air space between the rocks, while concrete has the powder mix filling the gaps. That's why I figured less for the concrete.

Boogerburns 05-05-2009 07:04 AM

and you didnt bend the frame?!?!

Ham-Bone 05-05-2009 03:14 PM

i had just just shy of three ton on my 2wd and it did find sagged like a biotch but didn't bend or break or twist anything at all

Just call me Sean 05-06-2009 01:00 AM

No bending, they're serious when they say "Built Ford tough".

Ham-Bone 05-06-2009 09:19 AM

lol oh ya

I've posted this pic before, but here's my f150 getting ready to pull a 7000 lb trailer on a 1200 mile trip. This summer it'll be going on a 1400 mile trip but it'll have upgrades to help this time.

To those loading your trucks... the effective payload of our trucks is around 1000 lbs. Last time I was on a scale without a load and both fuel tanks full and myself in the driver's seat, my truck weighed in at 5400 lbs. I think my GVWR is around 6500 lbs, so that leaves 1000 lbs of trailer tongue weight, people in the cab, or junk in the bed. That sucks for me because I wanted to take my motorcycle with me on my trip this summer :-( I still will if I can get it shipped up there.

Maybe your truck, but the effective payload of mine is when I stop loading it.

well yeah, I overload mine along with the rest of you... just wanted to say something so someone doesn't assume that there's no ill effects to putting 10,000 lbs in the bed of the truck :) I'm planning on getting some LT tires when my P rated ones are worn out so I can overload it with more peace of mind.

Just call me Sean 05-10-2009 08:36 PM

Good call. I sort of assumed that people would know that a 1/2 ton truck is rated to carry 1/2 ton even though people don't exactly weigh what they put in.

Ham-Bone 05-11-2009 09:08 PM

i run 31x10.5x15 LT ETS Trailmasters there awesome but hum alot

It may be "rated" to carry 1,000lbs, but they will handle plenty more, as most of us have found.;)
