Truck dies when making sharp right turns
1991 F150 5.0L RWD
Truck dies when making a sharp right, not sure why. Not a fuel issue I think because it will do fine when going straight or making left turns. Will crank back up after turning the key for 5 seconds. Cranks up fine on cold starts. The power steering pump does make a bit of a whine though. Just got done doing the 3g alternator upgrade. Any ideas???
Also I think the thermostat is broken. Overheats after about 20 minutes of constant driving. Just wanted to throw that in there too.

Does this happen when truck is sitting still and turned right all the way or just while in motion? Your cooling system needs addressed before more problems.

Only in motion. As for the cooling system, I'm doing that this weekend. Got everything I need to replace it and do a complete flush.

Just thinking the motor's not running all that great if the steering pump can stall it. You'd think it would shred the belt first.
I've seen them stall when you turned the wheel too hard at idle and in that case it needed a little engine maintenance to stop that happening.
If your P/S has a pressure sensor on it it's possible that it's sending a signal that the pcm doesn't like but otherwise you'd think it must be pretty close to being ready to stall out for pump pressure to make it die.
Just a thought, not based on any science / electronic facts.

Saw something like this on an episode of 'Fast n Loud' on discovery channel...they built a truck to climb pikes peak and every time they turned a certain way it would choke or stall...can't remember exactly the issue but I think it was fuel delivery...might try and find that episode and see what they said about it lol
