TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE while driving
Well, this morning, on my way to Church, I noticed a burning smell in the cab so I pulled over and cut it off. Flames were shooting out of the grill and dripping liquid flames on the ground. The wiring from the alternator is what started the fire. Has this been a well known problem with Ford's wiring harnesses or alternators? None of the fuses were blown. I am SO screwed now I have no money to fix it as I just spent all I had on Christmas presents.

stock alternator, with the external fan? The wires on that one are scarily small, glad i swapped. Also, isn't there supposed to be a fusible link or fuse in that wire?

I dont know, I was just told to check the fuses after the fire was put out, all the fuses were good. I read online someone suggested switching to a 2G alternator, but I dunno, can I get a different wiring harness?

alternator yells 'im doooonnnneeee' in a childish voice. Yeah, I'd say it was the skinny wires. If you want another stock one, I got it, just pay for shipping that's all. I dont want it hah just want it gone
3g is a little better. They're easy to wire too. Lead a large gauge wire to battery post, and the yellow wire to a source of switched ignition, and the green back to the green wire of the original, its for the voltgauge or some light somewhere. White one doubles back into the alternator in a different spot. Not too hard

It's a Canadian thing eh!
My 98 Taurus alternator wires smoked too but never caught fire, voltage regulator was shot. Since then always carried a small fire extinguisher in my vehicles.
