It's a Canadian thing eh!
It varies, some say it gives more response, some say an expensive paper weight. I bet under the right conditions say for true ram cold air intake or turbo it may do something, but for an every day engine I think you should be better off just buying a good quality intake.
My friends have put spacers on their cars and trucks, and its done nothing but decrease their mileage cause they want to hear the whistling noise they make to make you think they work when your almost redlining the engine. If anything you could try to find a larger throttle body.

i used to have a k & n and a airraid TBS in my 2002 dakota.
here's what i found... through my driving habits.
the airaid would whistle around the shift points on the tranny. which means i was accelerating.
with the K&N, that sweet sounding roar lets you know you're using the power/torque end of the setup.
if i didn't hear the roar or whistle... then i'm actually being pretty damn efficient on the mpg's.
despite what others say, not everyone has a ecoboost with a big computer in the guages. i prefer to hear results.
unfortunately, i'm not sure how or what caused... but i broke two exhaust manifold bolts on the passenger side.
the next time i plan on modding the 2010, i'll be starting at the back with exhaust, then i'll bump up the intake with another CAI and TBS

I did some research on the TBS a while back and found a few guys getting 1/2 to 1mpg gain, but no real seat of the pants performance. If I have a hundred to blow, I'm going to give the TBS a try. If I knew someone with a machine shop. I'd have one made allot cheaper. I did run into a guy with a 90's something 300 f150 who made a tbs out of a high temp plastic and a couple of tb gaskets and said he got a noticeable 1mpg gain for around $50. That's worth my time. That would pay for itself in a few tanks. I've got an ignition upgrade, tires and a windshield on the list before I have the money to experiment. I will give it a try eventually if i can DYI it.
