Question Tire size confusion?

Greetings all!

My tires are starting to come close to the tread ware indicator. I am toying with the idea of getting some 32" tires for my 4x4. I searched around here for a while and now have more questions then answers.

Currently I am running 31x10.5 R15

Now when I look at Tirerack I only see 32x11.5 R15.

As I understand it that 11.5 is straight inches, not the aspect ratio like on the metric tire size.

I have stock aluminum wheels on the truck. I am not sure how wide they are with out the tire.

I read if I go too wide, the centers will bulge and cause premature ware.

I am also concerned with rubbing. Some people say 32" tires are fine with the 4x4 suspension, others say they rub the control arms, and yet others say they rub the bumpers.

I don't really off road, since I have not found any place in the area that allows it. So I would like a set that are on/off road all season tires that are decent/good in the snow.

Please help!

11.50 is 11 1/2" - it's the width of the tire, which is a bit wider than the tread. 11.50 will rub on the radius arm with stock wheels. 32 should fit on a 4x4 without hitting the bumper but it'll be close probably. I had to take the plastic air dam off my 2wd

Thanks for the reply. Does it rub on the radius arm only when at full lock?

Have you seen any tires that are 32x10.5 r15? Cause in my book that would be ideal.

isn't the plastic air-dam installed in that picture you posted?

I think everyone should take those air dam's off, they look goofy and your truck will look more "truck like" afterwards.

Now if they offer a serious MPG increase (highly doubt it), then someone please chime in.

Yes it is but I had to take it off. It would just barely catch when I backed up w/ the wheel turned. And yes you can get 32/10.50. And it only rubs on the radius arm. If that wasn't there I could probably turn it farther and make it rub on something else. But I can still turn way sharper than most other vehicles (and they look way too good to do the sensible thing and take them off)
My son's 31/10'50's rub a bit too on his 4x4 but not quite as much.
Offset wheels or spacers would fix that I guess, but then that's harder on the bearings.
Oversize tires always seem to be a bit of a compromise somewhere.

The 32's will rub the radius arms but barely and only at full lock. I always run 33x12.50R15 and the only thing ive ever rubbed was the arms. The nice thing is that since there are no edges they rub it wont do any damage to the tires. Plus it just looks bad *** when the tires are tucked in there.
