Default Ticking Noise With A/C On

This has been going on for some time, but lately it's bringing me to the point of insanity.
I start up the truck, sounds fine. Turn on Vent, fine. Turn on A/C or Max A/C and I hear this ticking sound if I'm outside or the window is rolled down, but it can't be heard at all inside the cab. How would I go about finding out what this is? I'm venturing to guess it's compressor related. Any ideas leading me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated

Does the AC still work? How fast is the clicking? The compressor clutch may be malfunctioning

Sounds like a bad clutch engaging and disengaging over and over

So sorry, I meant to add, yes both A/C and Max A/C works fine.
Pretty fast. Doesn't sound like a baseball card in bike spokes, but it's pretty quick.

Is this a hard/expensive fix?

Can be simple with the proper tools. But not sure on the tools. My 89 does that and I'm replacing the whole compressor.

Mine started doing this till I replaced the compressor clutch face because it was worn and had too much of an air gap, so the clutch would not engage properly.

Takes 5 min to change and a single 8mm bolt.
