new member here needs some info on a 95 f150 4x4
hi, i was hoping someone could tell me a bit about a '95 f150 4x4 with 105k miles im thinking of trading my 96 acura tl for. it has the v6 engine and is an auto. how much hp and torque does that make about? whats the gas mileage like? any problems i should know about? are the trannys on those strong? i used to have a mid 90s ram and i always heard the trannys werent so great and had to often be replaced. also i was wondering if anyone had any idea what the 0-60 or 1/4 mile time of it would be. i know it wont be fast, i just want to make sure it wont be a total dog incapable of merging onto a highway with a 400lb load in the back. thanks
oh and the guy said "it has an exhaust leak up front but runs great". would this make it fail emissions or otherwise cause problems for me?

Welcome to the site!
In general, that setup has proven to be very reliable, however given the age and the miles - a lot will have to do with how well it has been maintained.
BTW - it will be an inline six, not a vee. Don't have the figures for '95, a '91 4.9L I6 was rated for 150hp (yes, that's right - 150hp) at 3400rpm, 265lb-ft at 2000rpm. I would think the numbers for a '95 will be slightly higher, but still don't be expecting to bring any trophies home from the race track. The inline six is a torquey, but not a revvy motor with its almost 4" stroke.
Gas mileage will likely be in the mid-to-upper teens.
As far as the exhaust leak - depends on how bad it is. If it's just a crack in the manifold, making a 'ticking' type sound - don't think this would cause problems. On the other hand, a gaping hole would be a whole 'nuther level of difficulty.

I Voted For Bill and Opus
I have been a fan of Overhead valve Ford in line 6's for 40 odd years. The 300 Cid L6 is the last of this excellent line. The lineage of the 300 started in 1961 with the 262 cid engine it was used in heavy Ford Pickups until 1964. In 1965 the 262 was punched out to 300 CID in answer to the GMC 351 V6. The GMC V6 had a bunch of torque, but it was a rough running dog because of it's 90 degree banks, and single plane crank. It had poor gas mileage but it would run forever if you could stand it. The 300 Ford L6 on the other hand was smooth, got excellent gas mileage for the vehical it was running in. the production of the 300 inline ended in 1996. That is a 31 year production run. The final version of this engine sported EFI, and could be had with the C6 automatic, a sweet combination. The 300 is not a snappy performer like the 302 V8 but it will hold it's own on the highway. A real plus is this engine will go well over 300,000 mile if taken care of. Those of you with this engine might find the site below interesting.

this engine is amazing for its reliablity. If you are looking to do some performance upgrades to the truck fordsix is a great site, but from what ive read about them, their customer service hasnt been what it used to be. If your looking to fix it up, rebuild the engine, and the engine will keep going for a long long time. But this truck was not built for speed, but it will tow damn near anything without too much trouble. me personally i would rather have this engine instead of any of the others, because of gas getting to be around 4 dollars a gal. well thats just my 2 cents

The exhaust leak could be minor to fix or a real PITA to replace the exhaust manifold.
The 300 works best behind a manual tranny. My 94 and 95 had five speeds and my 92 work truck had a E4OD. While all were adequate for power none were fast. All were very good when hauling up to 5000 lbs.
My current ride gets about 16-17 Mpg average and has enough power to pass on 2 lane roads.
These are very good trucks but you might be disappointed with the performance as compared to the Acura.
