Default Tell me what you think of this Weld fix.

So I think this is a crossmember? It's the behind the front axel, directly under the oil pan.

It had a crack in it, because the previous owner cut out the supporting lip (maybe to get to a bolt).

This is what my welding guy did to fix it.

You can see where the previous owner tried to tac weld the crack.

The fix. Its black because he sprayed some bedline on it to protect it. It looks like he cut a v, then welded in some metal.

That'd be the engine crossmember, with the motor mounts ?
Can't ask for a better fix than that, looks like he did a good job

I was a little worried that he didn't use a fish plate.

Looks like a solid weld. Looks like he cut the bad edge off where the PO cut. Let's the weld fill with good clean edge instead of ragged nastiness. Lol.

He said the alignment as knocked off pretty bad now that it is fixed, so we will have to get it realigned.

After doing some research, I am really concerned that it will never be straight, and that perhaps the crack put stress or warped other frame components.

Alignment's a good idea. The rest should be fine - don't worry.

Sure, those mounting points could be a little off (from factory new), but if there's enough adjustment available to properly align the wheels, then... they'll be properly aligned, so no worries.

That makes me feel a little better.

He said the toe and camber was pretty bad now, so we will see how it all straightens up.

I don't expect German sedan, but just don't want to fight it while driving.

I post an update.
