Default swapping a cluster with a tach

Ok .. I have a 1995 F150 and have been wanting to swap in a cluster with a tach for some time now .. I have been told I can only use a 94-95 cluster if I want plug and play. Then I was looking around on ebay and one seller said that it will only work up to a build date of 5/95 .. I have a 8/95 build truck .. I was going to swap out my Speedo into the new cluster to retain mileage .. so does this mean i need to find a 96 cluster for mine? Or will it not matter as im going to be swapping speedos anyways .. oh and its an auto trans

There is a listing on ebay of a guy selling just the shell of one w.o a speedo and a cover .. its basically swapping in the faceplate with one that has a tach .. is this also an option for me?

Thanks for any advise and help!!

Your best option would be the last option you listed, retain your PSOM as that is the only real difference in the years. For the last half of 95 there is some debate on what works.

I have a 7-95 build date F-150 to, and I got lucky & found a Cluster out of a Truck with the same build date. But I heard that it goes like this, if your Truck is built on or after 6-1995 you Have to use a Cluster Dated 6-1995 or after up to the 1996's.And if your Truck was Built before 6-1995 you have to use a Cluster Dated before that back to 1994.And the reason is Ford changed some Circuits in the Clusters mid 1995.And while they all physically fit the same, because of the Circuitry differences they don't interchange. So I'm guessing some things on the Cluster work & other things might not read right,or even work at all.

I think so if there both a Gas engine, but I'm not 100% sure. But I am 100% sure you can't use a Diesel Trucks Cluster on a Gas Truck & vice versa...
