Here's my update. I have installed the new Gates water pump, new 185 degree thermostat, new thermal fan clutch, all new anti-freeze, changed oil to 10-40 Mobile 1 full synthetic, new filter, flushed radiator with a regular hose pipe, checked radiator hoses, and other misc things. I started it up today and let it idle exactly 30 minutes. When I cut it off the temp gauge was between the A and L on the NORMAL mark. It's 88 degrees outside today and it wouldn't usually be over the NO mark on the NORMAL mark. I'm starting to believe it may be electrical. I replaced my temperature sending unit before the water pump failed, about a year ago. The one they gave me was larger in diameter where the brass/copper part went into the intake but the threads were the same. Then where the wire plugs on was larger too, I had to spread my temperature connectors wire open more so it would slide over the threads of the new sending unit. Other than that I'm at a complete lose now what could be wrong.

Mine was seriously overheating after the thermostat change, i drove the front wheels onto the lift, which raised it about like a drive on ramp. it burped some. I squeezed the crap out of the upper hose and it really burped. After that it ran cool as before.

Well I tried the BURP technique and I may have had a little air but the temp gauge goes to the same place. Are they different sending unit ohms/voltages on a 302 sending unit? Like I mentioned above, this sending unit is more robust than my original.
Thanks

Maybe try a stock sending unit, for what it costs, before tearing your hair out over an overheat situation which might not be one at all.

Yeah, this one was supposed to be a stock replacement sending unit.. I'm thinking of a oil/water/voltage gauge kit for $15 more.

Make sure your fan is pulling air towards the engine not away! lol, may sound goofy but my buddy traded for a truck and they installed a clockwise style fan instead of counter or viseversa and was over heatin like a ****
