Default squirrely tachometer

Hello ~
1987 F150 Custom 4.9 4speed manual.
tach is showing, maybe a slight higher than normal idle. however, when driving normally and processing through the gears, the tach operates on the high side of the gauge, even bottoming out at the 6000rpm. my research would indicate a faulty TPS - any thoughts?
thanks,

Mike ~

The TPS has no effect on the tachometer. Where did you research that?

To help you, we need to know a LOT more about the truck... Click this & read the caption:

Don't post it - put it into your signature, and don't leave anything out. List each factory option (including the instrument cluster), and the truck's maintenance/modification/repair history.
