I just noticed you found a problem with the small wire as well. Those "push on" contacts I have always found to be a weak point. If yours is jacked, you could crimp a proper sized terminal lug and use a nut and washer setup to secure it. Also, I like shrink tubing, makes for a clean install and provides additional support to the wires going into the crimp.

BTW, your handle indicates a military service member, if so, thanks much for your service.

Edit, I thought I was reading the small wire on the starter relay up on the fender?

The small wire is at the starter and its a lug. There was just a lot exposed wire from heat making the wire sheath brittle. I solder and heat shrink everything. Most of my connectors are marine connectors with heat shrink already attached. I think it's important to mention that not all heat shrink is the same. If you get marine specific heat shrink it will be thicker and have a glue that melts and truly makes it watertight. Watertight means no corrosion and like you mentioned it supports the wire better.

Thanks for the thanks! My retirement will be official on 1 August. Time to become a crotchety curmudgeon.

thatguylj, you should do the same tests I did. Get your alternator checked to make sure its putting out 14 volts. Most auto parts stores can test it in the truck. While you are there get a load test on your battery to make sure its healthy, check your solenoid per 5rangers instructions and then check your connections. I can't imagine that with a 2008 your connections would need to be snipped, restripped and new connectors attached but you never know till you check.
