starter cable/ o2 sensor

well i drove my truck with out a starter in it cause i had to and and i put a new one in the other day and noticed the cable that goes from the solenoid to the starter was wrapped around the header and it melted it, and there was another wire in there and it went to the what i think is the o2 sensor at is in the header and it was all tore up too, and it dont really look like it goes to anywhere but the header and soleniod? but idk can i just put a wire to soleniod to starter and bypass the sensor? or does it need that to run right?

EFI trucks need the O2 sensor to run correctly, yes. It tells it how much is being burnt and what not.

what u mean by correctly?

and how is it hooked up it doesnt look like its hooked up to anything but the solenoid?

The O2 sensor is hooked up with a pigtail, like all of our other EFI components, and it tells the computer with other sensors how much fuel to put in the injectors and what not. So it has to do with the fuel maps. Youll run rich without it and get horrible gas mileage. And the starter is just hooked up to the solenoid and grounded.

well i dont have one on there and it seems to run fine nothing wrong at all but runnin straight pipe so the o2 censer would be sucky anyways if i did hook it up right?

You absolutely need the oxygen sensor for the truck to run correctly. It's one of the most important sensors.

Your truck will run without the O2 sensor, however it will be low on power and use more fuel since it believes the truck is running lean and will richen the mix as much as possible to fix the problem.
