Question Squeaking noise during acceleration: Manual 1989 Ford F-150 XLT

Manual 1989 Ford F-150 XLT

I have a squeaking sound when I press on the gas and the clutch is engaged.

It does not happen when in neutral whether idling or pressing on the gas.

It does not happen when in gear but not pressing on the gas.

It is not change whether the truck is going straight or turning.

When starting to accelerate with the truck in gear the squeak is loud and happens about every half a second. As the acceleration continues through 20-30 miles per hour the squeak gets more frequent and more high pitched. If I take my foot off the gas it stops immediately and it starts again when pressing on the gas.

The local auto shop convinced me it was the air pump. $380 later it is making the same noise in exactly the same way.

Any suggestions?

if its the U joints yes you can throw the drive shaft and its still going to be spinning it can mess up alot of stuff and could send out the caps flying the pilot bearing it will just burn out and might do something to the transmission. you will need to replace the clutch and fly wheel maybe even a transmission.
I have driven my f150 with both bad u joints and i mean really bad as in every time i started up it would shake the entire truck until it would settle so was lucky but they can go at any time.

I would second the u-joints. I had a one frozen up on the frontside of rear driveshaft and it started off going weeeek weeeeek weeeeek then the faster I went it became weekweekweekweek. Only happened on acceleration.

i think napa ones are 15-25 bucks each you can get life time U joints but they are not necessary if you have a wrench hammer and some time you can fix it yourself for just the cost of the U joints

I don't have the space/tools/patience to do any work on the truck.

If I take it somewhere how much time would it take them to replace it? Is there anything special about the part or would they probably have some in stock that would fit the 1989 F150?

First you need to find out the problem is. Find a local shop and have them diagnose it and give you a repair estimate.
