Yes good point - if the JY has the van high pressure hose still in tact, then that is the one you want anyways. When I got mine the line was cut, so I picked up a new one.

At the big yard I usually go to out here, they pull the entire drivetrain before putting the trucks in the public yard, and usually they remove all the bracketry/accessories from the engine before they put the engine on a pallet. So usually you will find the A/C/power steering pump bracket sitting in the bed of the truck, with the pump and A/C compressor still mounted to it, with all of the lines cut. So finding ANY good hoses can be a challenge sometimes.

If you think the RP didn't cause the current problems, keep using it. But I don't know how that assumption could be made, rationally. It's not what Ford recommends, and something happened that shouldn't have - I'd assume the wrong fluid had SOMETHING to do with the failure, and I'd start using the right fluid, exclusively.

The absolute WORST thing to put into any PS system is generic "Power Steering Fluid" from a parts store. Never ever put it into your Ford, unless you plan on replacing lots of parts anyway.

Read these:

The rest of that site is interesting to browse...
Thanks again, Steve. Do you know how much fluid I will need to fill the PS system after installing the new gearbox? I can't find it listed in either the Haynes or owner's manuals.

It can't be more than 3 qts; Probably not even 2. How much RP did you buy when you put it in?

The vans have a lot more weight on the front axles and thus take more power to operate the gearbox to turn the wheels......

Are you sure the play is in the steering BOX? I would have someone look at it who knows what to look for and they can tell you if your steering play is in the box. If the play is not in the box they can, with the help of an assistant to turn the steering wheel a few inches back and forth a few inches either way for a while, tell you where the play is. Turn the key to free up the steering wheel and DO NOT start the engine. Also use the assistant in the same way to check the play in the steering box.

If it's a quality reman, it will be adjusted properly - you shouldn't tamper with it. What brand & PN did you buy, from where? If the fix isn't right, complain to the installer - that's what you paid him for. If he can't do the job right, he needs to refund all the labor.
